Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews is a very basic book for early readers about counting to ten. For each number there are different scenarios that fit the number. For example, when talking about the number two, the scenario would be the eyes of a cat because a cat has two eyes. This book is very simple with the text and even the illustrations. There isnt much going on on the page because the main point of the book is to be able to count the black dots on each page and read what the black dots make.

The font of the book is very big so the words stand out on the page and not just the pictures. On each page there are a specific number of black dots and the author made certain that the black dots were the only thing that was black on the page, besides the font, so that the dots would stand out.

I remember reading this book when I was in preschool and learning how to count to ten from counting the black dots on each page. Also in the back of the book there is a table with the number and the amount of the black dots which is good because then the kids reading the book and see the numbers in a more mathematical way than just on animals or in trees.
